• Track and improve year-over-year ranking
 • Celebrate and show off your “100 Best” status
 • Exposure in Oregon Business Magazine as a 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon

Details:

Oregon Business magazine, producer of the popular 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon, will measure and rank reviews from online consumer review sites to produce the 2024 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon rankings.

The survey period will be open from January 1st, 2023 through September 20th, 2023. You can register your business for consideration at any time during this period. Reviews from the most common review sites, Yelp, Google and Trip Advisor, will be tracked and totaled based on their common 5 star rating systems. Participants must have at least a total of 20 reviews combined from the three sites. Participants with an abundant amount of reviews will have their scores calculated with a systematic sampling of reviews.

To encourage positive reviews, participants will receive a digital “toolkit” with tips and hints on increasing positive online reviews, coaching suggestions, plus marketing language and printable point-of-purchase handouts, encouraging guests to submit a positive review.

After September 20th, a score will be determined from the ratio of 4 and 5 star ratings vs. total ratings and destinations will be ranked based on their ratio.

The 2024 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon will be revealed in an online presentation on the Oregon Business website in mid-December. 100 Best Destinations who make the list will have the opportunity to promote their achievement in the 2024 100 Best Fan-Favorites Destinations in Oregon map that will be distributed in the Spring of 2024.

2021 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon UPDATE https://oregonbusiness.com/19181-2021-100-best-fan-favorite-destinations-in-oregon-update/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=19181-2021-100-best-fan-favorite-destinations-in-oregon-update Mon, 14 Sep 2020 22:24:14 +0000 https://oregonbusiness.com/2021-100-best-fan-favorite-destinations-in-oregon-update/ Given the events of 2020, and their effects on the travel and tourism industry across the State of Oregon, we have decided to skip the 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon rankings for this year.

]]>
The challenges facing destinations, many out of your direct control, will make it difficult to effectively evaluate the customer experience. Our methodology relies on high volumes of social media reviews to recognize destinations who provide amazing customer experiences. With so many restrictions in place at various levels throughout the year, it will be hard to create a level playing field for the rankings.

The 2020 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon map is currently being distributed and will continue to be distributed in the same locations throughout 2021.

Our plan is to resume this program for the 2022 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon. The survey period for the 2022 list will be January 1, 2021 – September 17, 2021. After the close of the survey period, results will be tallied and a list created. We hope to hold our 2022 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon luncheon and seminar again in December of 2021.

There is no need to sign-up again for the 2022 survey. All participants from this year’s survey will be automatically enrolled.

If you know of other destinations you feel should be participating in this program, encourage them to sign-up at www.oregonbusiness.com/100best/destinations

Portland-based media firm MEDIAmerica, publishers of Oregon Business magazine and the well-known 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon survey, have announced the fourth annual 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon for 2020.

This year researchers studied over 95,000 reviews, a 43% increase over last year’s reviews, on the most widely used online review sites Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp. Scores were tallied and combined to determine the level of travelers’ overall satisfaction. The scores were then ranked to create the 100 Best Fan-Favorites Destinations list.

The “100 Best” will gain valuable exposure in popular statewide magazines like Oregon Home and Oregon Business, both in print and online. Winners may also promote their achievement with exclusive rights to use the “100 Best” logo on their promotional materials and at point-of-purchase.

The top 100 destinations will once again be charted on a map for visitors and residents to use as a guide for traveling the state. A total of 75,000 statewide maps will be distributed in 2020 at most of the state’s entry points and visitor centers. The map continues to be very popular, according to our distribution partner Matt Preston of Certified Folder Display Service Inc. who said, “the 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon brochure continues to be a huge hit in the Travel Oregon Welcome Center program which includes the PDX International Airport!”

“I continue to be amazed at the high level of customer satisfaction many of these destinations deliver year after year. And the average number of reviews per destination continues to grow, proving this is something worth paying attention to,” says Andrew Insinga, CEO of MEDIAmerica.

Craig Peebles, Events Manager at MEDIAmerica adds “As we scour more and more reviews each year the project becomes more involved, but the results continue to be worth it. A ranking based purely on customer satisfaction is a true measure of what makes a great destination.”

Destinations wishing to sign up for consideration in the 2021 100 Best Fan-Favorite destinations survey may do so here. Participation is free.

Craig Peebles, Events Manager at MEDIAmerica, adds “To be able to tally and merge data from the big three online review sites was not easy, but the result is worth it. A ranking based purely on customer satisfaction is a true measure of what makes a great destination.”

“Do one or two things well,” said Josh Breese, director of strategy at Anvil Media. “Don’t do everything poorly.”

Breese was one of four panelists who participated in an Oregon Business forum yesterday on social media and online reputation management.

Speakers talked about the importance of responding to negative online reviews, organic vs. paid media and the penetration of partisan politics into everyday business practices.

audience

Breese’s comment about doing things well was a response to a question about how to navigate the bewildering array of social media platforms.

Consistency is more important than having a presence on every channel, Breese said. “Look at what your product and service is and what medium showcases it well. Be consistent in your content production — even if it’s once or twice a week.”

jscopy
Jon Shadel, my colleague and senior travel editor at MEDIAmerica, helped define the target market for the different platforms. “Twitter is a medium for journalists, trolls and people mad at airlines,” he said.

As political debates ensnare large and small companies — whether they take a stance on a given policy issue or not — online reputation management has become even more important, panelists said.

“Online is where everyone turns at some point,” said Breese. “We have seen over the last year brands take hits or be celebrated in the political world.”

“Social media is the face of your brand,” said Rachel Smith, a strategist with Sparkloft Media.

One online goof may not destroy your company — “Look at Pepsi,” Smith said in a reference to the brand’s out of touch Kendall Jenner ad last year. “They’re still around. But I’ve watched a lot of businesses go down just by not responding to criticism.”

In 2017 “pay to play” is standard marketing procedure. “A fairly low percentage of organic is getting in front of the audience,” Breese said. “You are going to have to advertise. Your best effort is to use good organic content coupled with paid content. “

Influencers are a good way to promote content online, but not all businesses can afford to pay people with a large social media audience to promote their brands.

“I’m a one-person operation,” said Scott Steward, owner of Creative Wave Marketing Solutions. “We don’t have the budget to pursue everything. I have to be very selective.” Steward said he hasn’t pursued influencers, and that businesses short on resources should seek out industry partners to help with marketing efforts.

Many brands are chasing a generic millennial audience, Shadel said. “But the millennial they are targeting may not exist, or it may be a slim percentage of the audience. Understand who you are targeting.”

During the question and answer period, a person in the audience asked panelists how to get people to post positive reviews online.

“Ask,” Steward said.

]]>

The list was based on 22,000 reviews posted in the past year on Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp. Scores were tallied and combined to determine the level of travelers’ overall satisfaction. The scores were then ranked to create the 100 Best Fan-Favorites Destinations list.

The “100 Best” will gain valuable exposure in MEDIAmerica publications Oregon Home, Oregon Business, as well as the Discover Portland in-room hotel guest guide. Winners may also promote their achievement with exclusive rights to use the “100 Best” logo on their promotional materials and at point-of-purchase.

The top 100 destinations will be charted on a map for visitors and residents to use as a guide for traveling the state. A total of 75,000 statewide maps will be distributed in 2017 at most of the state’s entry points and visitor centers.

“Consumers have a high level of trust in online, third party reviews.” says Andrew Insinga, CEO of MEDIAmerica. “So for us to be able to crunch the data and compile a usable, valuable list of the best destinations in Oregon is exciting.”

Craig Peebles, Events Manager at MEDIAmerica, adds: “It’s very meaningful that the actual scores and decisions that created the ranking were based on customers, and not derived by us. This is a list that Oregon fans, both visitors and residents, will find extremely useful.”

Destinations wishing to sign up for consideration for the 2018 100 Best Fan-Favorite destinations survey may do so here. Participation is free.
