The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to pose challenges for employers, with new variants continuing to emerge and surges continuing to sicken tens of thousands of people in the U.S. every day. The ongoing repercussions of the pandemic have created staffing challenges across a host of industries, including the nonprofit sector. Employers are in a tough position as they decide whether or not they want to reopen their offices to those who had previously worked remotely — and figuring out the best way to keep employees and the public safe amid shifting mandates and public health guidelines. Those employers that made the list were praised not just for providing competitive compensation and benefits, but for offering flexibility to employees juggling family responsibilities, health challenges and challenging workloads. More than one nonprofit on this list saw management — including CEOs — rolling up their sleeves to join frontline workers amid staff shortages due to high case counts.

This list showcases organizations that have committed to best-in-class workplace practices and is based on scoring of surveys sent to the employees themselves. Scores are based on a total of 700, with employees rating their satisfaction with five features of the workplace: work environment; management and communication; mission and goals; career development and learning; and benefits and compensation.

Participating nonprofits are also independently scored based on the benefits they provide, as well as the percentage of employees who took the survey. You can learn more about the methodology at OregonBusiness.com.

Congratulations again to all organizations who made the list!
