The 100 Best Companies to Work For in Oregon were celebrated at a gala happy hour March 2 at the Oregon Convention Center. Click here to see the photos.

These companies have demonstrated a commitment to being great places to work, per survey results from employees across the state.

The past three years have seen massive disruption in the way we live and work, and employers are still navigating a post-pandemic “new normal.” Despite recent large-scale layoffs, mostly in the tech sector, Oregon is still reporting record-low levels of unemployment — making recruitment and retention more important than ever, if also more difficult.

A review of comments from this year’s surveys shows that flexibility is still crucial when it comes to attracting and keeping great employees. While a number of employers have called employees to return to the office full-time, others have made work-from-home and hybrid-workplace schedules a permanent part of the way they operate. A large number of workers who took this year’s survey also praised their employers for offering flexible working hours and for creating cultures that let them prioritize their families.

Everybody wants to feel like their work is seen and valued: Some of the most enthusiastic comments came from employees who felt like they were part of a supportive team and had clear opportunities for advancement. Multiple commenters mentioned they felt like their employers trusted them to do their jobs properly and avoided micromanaging them. Employees also singled out managers who were willing to roll up their sleeves and help frontline staff amid staffing shortages, and praised perks that include office lunches, employee-recognition events and free snacks — but also profit-sharing bonuses and even discounts on the purchase of a new home.

The companies on this list have demonstrated that employers who adapt readily to shifting norms — and who go out of their way to make their employees feel valued, trusted and appreciated, and to create a family-friendly team environment — continue to garner accolades, and to attract and keep great employees in a tight, competitive labor market.

]]>

Portland-based media firm MEDIAmerica, publishers of Oregon Business magazine and the well-known 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon survey, have announced the fourth annual 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon for 2020.

This year researchers studied over 95,000 reviews, a 43% increase over last year’s reviews, on the most widely used online review sites Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp. Scores were tallied and combined to determine the level of travelers’ overall satisfaction. The scores were then ranked to create the 100 Best Fan-Favorites Destinations list.

The “100 Best” will gain valuable exposure in popular statewide magazines like Oregon Home and Oregon Business, both in print and online. Winners may also promote their achievement with exclusive rights to use the “100 Best” logo on their promotional materials and at point-of-purchase.

The top 100 destinations will once again be charted on a map for visitors and residents to use as a guide for traveling the state.  A total of 75,000 statewide maps will be distributed in 2020 at most of the state’s entry points and visitor centers. The map continues to be very popular, according to our distribution partner Matt Preston of Certified Folder Display Service Inc. who said, “the 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon brochure continues to be a huge hit in the Travel Oregon Welcome Center program which includes the PDX International Airport!”

“I continue to be amazed at the high level of customer satisfaction many of these destinations deliver year after year. And the average number of reviews per destination continues to grow, proving this is something worth paying attention to,” says Andrew Insinga, CEO of MEDIAmerica.

Craig Peebles, Events Manager at MEDIAmerica adds “As we scour more and more reviews each year the project becomes more involved, but the results continue to be worth it. A ranking based purely on customer satisfaction is a true measure of what makes a great destination.”

Destinations wishing to sign up for consideration in the 2021 100 Best Fan-Favorite destinations survey may do so here. Participation is free.
